Your pet undergoing surgery can cause a lot of anxiety and stress. At Ambassador Animal Hospital, we want you to know that your loyal companion is safe with us. Being pet parents ourselves, we can empathize with your feelings and we do everything in our power to ensure your pet makes a full recovery. Before all operations, we discuss the procedure with pet parents and run tests to make sure surgery is the right step for your pet. During the operation, we constantly monitor their heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels. After surgery, we’ll monitor them for a while before we send them home for recovery. Our team is also very involved in the recovery process; we always schedule follow-up appointments. Our goal is to improve your cherished pet’s life by having a successful surgery.

How can I prepare my pet for surgery?

The first step in preparing your pet for a procedure is to make sure they are up-to-date on their vaccines. Secondly, all pets should fast for up to 8 hours the day before they come in for a procedure. If your pet’s fur needs to be shaved for the surgery one of our technicians will shave the specific area. Any other special preparations will depend on the surgery and we will provide information in our pre-surgery briefing.

How can I support my pet post-op?

Once your loyal companion has recovered from anesthesia, our doctors will discuss the recovery process. We provide pain medications to help with any discomfort and we may give other instructions based on the type of surgery your pet had. You may want to do small modifications at home to make their life easier such as moving their water or food closer to them or giving them a softer bed since they need to rest more.
